Additionally, with the help of volunteers, an emergency room was set up near Maidan Square.

"We run the ambulance room just next to the Mikhailovsky monastery, which, until recently, functioned as a major medical center where the wounded were treated," says PIN Aid Coordinator in Ukraine Ivo Dokoupil. "It's a former clinic with old emergency rooms. About a hundred local volunteers are now helping us with the clearing and cleaning," said Dokoupil, who added that the medical team will now be mainly available for medical checks, bandage dressings and postoperative care. “That's because people still go for medical checks to makeshift clinics in cafes or in residential buildings," said Ivo Dokoupil .
Furthermore, the task of our five-member team is the organization of the medical evacuation of about twenty patients to the Czech Republic. "Together, with local volunteer physicians who maintain databases of injuries, we have identified the more serious cases which cannot be properly treated in Kiev. These are mostly serious injuries to the eyes and head," says Dokoupil. "The patients should be transported soon to the Czech Republic by a chartered military flight," said Ivo Dokoupil from Kiev.
Although the situation in Ukraine has stabilized in recent days, in the longrun, various forms of assistance will be required . "The biggest need we see in the medium and long term horizon is assistance to the victims of violence in Kiev. There will be need especially for medical expenses, aftercare, rehabilitation and other services that may be needed to help people return to their everyday lives We assume that help will be also needed by families of those who lost their lives during the protests," said Simon Panek, director of People in Need.
