Four years since the Taliban took control in Afghanistan, many families in the country continue to struggle. Jobs are scarce, access to services limited, and the ongoing ban on education for girls above 6th grade, has worsened the situation. Restrictions on women’s participation in social and economic life have increased isolation and depression, and in some cases, young girls have reportedly taken their own lives due to these pressures.

According to the UN, 75 per cent of people in Afghanistan struggles to meet their daily needs, with female-headed households, rural communities, and internally displaced persons being most affected.

The return of thousands of people from Pakistan, Iran, and other neighboring countries has added further pressure on already strained communities. Recent natural disasters, including earthquakes, flash floods, and severe droughts, have caused extensive damage to families, farmland, and property.

Today, millions of Afghans are in urgent need of assistance. The economy remains unstable, malnutrition is rising, and displacement is increasing. Without continued support, these challenges will worsen, leading to further socio-economic instability and negative long-term impacts.

Despite this difficult context, we remain committed to supporting Afghan communities. Since 2001, we have provided emergency aid and implemented long-term solutions to improve education, livelihoods, and access to essential services.

Our projects address families’ most urgent needs. Community-based education classes (CBE) provide out-of-school children with access to learning. Farming tools, seeds, and training help households build sustainable livelihoods. Clean water and sanitation initiatives improve public health, while cash aid enables families to decide how best to meet their own needs.

Even in this fragile and complex environment, we continue to work. Across the country, we’re reaching people most in need. Every project prioritises communities and aims to create a brighter, more stable future for Afghanistan. Our goal is simple: to help Afghans live safer, healthier, and more hopeful lives.
