Enabling Aid Workers to See the Other Point of View

PIN has launched a new www.behaviourchange.net website helping aid workers understand the perspectives of people whom they aim to help.
Development interventions frequently promote dozens of health, agriculture and other practices that have huge potential for improving people’s well-being. Let’s take washing hands with soap – this simple behaviour can reduce the risk of life-threatening diarrhoea by half. “The problem is that aid workers are not always sure about the cultural, economic or environmental barriers that prevent people from practicing these behaviours,” says Camila Garbutt, PIN’s Advisor for Nutrition and Public Health. As a result, development interventions do not always achieve the desired outcomes.
PIN therefore teamed up with several behaviour change specialists and jointly created an attractive www.behaviourchange.net website helping aid workers understand and tackle the key barriers to behaviour change.
“We are hoping that the offered guidance, tools, and examples will make it much easier for aid workers to enable people to practice behaviours that can significantly improve their lives,” explains Petr Schmied, PIN’s Advisor for Behaviour Change. All resources are available free of charge, for people from any aid organization and any countries.
