As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacities of local civil protection services, we donated 24 two-way digital handheld radios to the Professional Firefighting Unit of the City of Mostar. This donation is part of our efforts to protect natural heritage in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the forests are often hit by wildfires.

Firefighters in Mostar face numerous challenges from wildfires in hard-to-reach areas to incidents in densely populated urban environments. The rapid spread of fire caused by dry conditions, limits accessibility for firefighters. Additionally, the simultaneous deployment of multiple teams at different locations demands precise coordination. Reliable radio communication significantly improves coordination in the field, where every second counts. After discussion with the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Minister Emil Balavac, we donated 24 new tow-way radios to Mostar's firefighters. This equipment will enable better organisation, safer coordination, and quicker responses.

With this donation, Mostar’s firefighters now have reliable and secure internal communications—contributing directly to the protection of lives and property.

“We are proud to support the improved operational capacity of Mostar’s firefighting unit. Every activity and donation is a symbol of solidarity and friendship between the Czech people and the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Michaela Guldanová, Regional Representative in Western Balkans of People in Need.

“This donation would not have been impossible without the timely identification of specific needs. We are grateful to Minister Balavac for his collaborative approach, as such open communication with institutions allows us to act swiftly and purposefully,” she added.

The donation was made possible with the support of the citizens of the Czech Republic through the PIN Club of Friends, in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Tourism, and Environmental Protection and the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC).

“We value when cooperation with international organizations leads to tangible results for our services. Communication is key to every effective emergency response, and this new equipment will greatly improve the daily work of our firefighting unit,” said Minister Emil Balavac.

At People in Need, we have been supporting the people of Mostar for four years through projects supporting community development. This donation represents another contribution to the safety of the community and a continuation of strong cooperation with local institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
