People in Need accredited by the Green Climate Fund

This important milestone will enable us to expand climate action for communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis by directly accessing GCF financing and working with local partners to deliver projects in developing countries, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
A milestone for climate action in vulnerable communities
”For decades, PIN has worked alongside communities facing conflict, natural disasters and poverty. Climate change is intensifying these challenges through more frequent extreme events such as droughts and floods, impacting human lives and ecosystems.
Our accreditation by the Green Climate Fund is an important milestone that will enable us to help climate finance reach last-mile communities, particularly in fragile and complex contexts. We are pleased to have this opportunity to expand our work by applying locally led adaptation principles so that those most affected by climate change have the resources to shape their own climate solutions,” says Jan Mrkvička, Director of the Relief and Development Department, People in Need (PIN)
The world's largest climate fund
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the world's largest dedicated climate fund, established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).It finances climate mitigation and adaptation projects in developing countries, helping governments, communities and organisations respond to the growing impacts of climate change while supporting low-emission, climate-resilient development.
Its mission is to direct climate finance to the countries and communities that are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
As an Accredited Entity, we can now directly develop and implement GCF-funded projects, working with partners to deliver climate solutions where they are needed most. Accreditation also provides direct access to international climate finance, enabling us to scale up our support for communities facing the growing impacts of climate change.
Expanding climate action where it is needed most
Accreditation is a rigorous process that recognises an organisation's ability to manage international climate finance and deliver projects that meet the GCF's high standards. It is awarded only to organisations with robust governance, financial management and safeguards.
Our accreditation will enable us to expand climate adaptation programmes, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected contexts, while building on our long-standing partnerships with local organisations. By advancing locally led adaptation, we will help ensure that climate finance reaches last-mile communities and supports solutions shaped by the people most affected by climate change.
“We are pleased to welcome People in Need as an Accredited Entity of the Green Climate Fund. This new partnership creates opportunities to expand access to climate finance and strengthen support for vulnerable communities facing the impacts of climate change,” says Achala Abeysinghe, Director of the Green Climate Fund's Department of Investment Services.
