Throughout 2015 to 2017, PIN focused its efforts on increasing access to quality education and psychosocial support for Syrian refugee children in Hatay province with funds from ECHO’s Children of Peace and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Through a combination of quality formal education, psychosocial support and social cohesion activities, Syrian refugee children acquired the knowledge, skills and values needed to support life-long learning and active, responsible participation in the social, economic and cultural lives in Turkey.

PIN supported the establishment of 5 Temporary Education Centers in Hatay with operation costs, needed equipment, and trained 171 Syrian and Turkish teachers in psycho-social and social-cohesion facilitation. Nearly 3,535 Syrian refugee children enrolled in these centers, who PIN provided with transportation costs and school supply kits. These children also participated in various context-sensitive, psycho-social activities to help them better cope with living in displacement. Over 2,000 host and refugee community members joined in various social cohesion activities.
