How civil society organisations drive change in Armenia, Georgia, and Moldova

While they emerge and grow in a politically and economically diverse region, civil societies of Moldova, Georgia and Armenia have much in common. They play a crucial role in civic engagement and participatory democracy, pointing out and addressing the priorities and needs of the people in these countries. With funding from the EU, People in Need (PIN) realised a project supporting newly created civil society organisations (CSOs), civic initiatives, and social and cultural movements in their role as trusted actors advancing the democratic process in their countries.
The project called “Civil Society Actors as Drivers of Change in South Caucasus and Moldova” supported a diverse range of emerging civic actors in developing their potential to engage and empower communities, build expertise, run campaigns and advocate for systemic change in areas of human rights, community development, youth engagement and education, environmental protection, gender equality and many others.
“Through this project, we have discovered dedicated and creative local activists and initiatives who, instead of waiting for the change to happen by itself, are taking the role of changemakers in their communities,” says Elena Terzi, PIN’s Regional Coordinator for the project.
