On Friday, September 5, 2025, a fire broke out in a civilian logistics base in Dnipro that housed multiple warehouses. The blaze spread from a neighbouring warehouse into the facility where People in Need stored humanitarian aid. The cause of the fire is still under police investigation.

Among the materials lost were 2,000 tonnes of fuel briquettes, materials to repair around 400 homes, and more than 10,000 hygiene kits for older persons, evacuees, and internally displaced families. In total, the destroyed aid was worth about CZK 20 million — less than 2% of our operational capacity.

Despite this setback, our work did not pause for a single day. Replacement premises were secured immediately, and a new warehouse was quickly set up, already receiving deliveries and dispatching aid to communities in need. Our teams continue delivering support across Ukraine, including fuel briquettes for Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts as part of our winterisation response.

“Our staff reacted immediately and worked together to resolve the situation,” says Anna Duda, Country Director of People in Need Ukraine. “Within days, we had a new warehouse up and running, and aid was on its way to families in need. I also want to stress that the warehouses we rent are always chosen in line with strict security procedures, ensuring they are not located near military or strategic facilities. This quick, united response shows the strength, dedication, and resilience of our team — and our unwavering commitment to the people of Ukraine.”

Thanks to this resilience, we are fully operational—standing with the people of Ukraine, no matter the challenges.

We are aware of disinformation circulating in some media suggesting that we store weapons in our warehouse. This is categorically untrue. As a humanitarian organisation, we strictly adhere to humanitarian principles and only store and deliver relief items for civilians.
