Laos: from heavy rains to hope
Published: Nov 21, 2025 Reading time: 2 minutes Share: Share an articleFollowing heavy rainfall and widespread flooding in early November 2025, we collaborated with the Community Development Association (CODA) to provide critical relief in Attapeu Province, Lao PDR. Our, teams visited the Sanamxay and Phouvong districts to deliver aid to flood-affected communities.

This effort provided a total of 800 relief kits—containing essential items like rice, hygiene products, and food—to help families cope with the impacts of flooding. We prioritised the most vulnerable residents and help meet their immediate needs. This distribution was possible thanks to the funds from our Club of Friends.
Widespread flooding damaged houses, crops, and infrastructure. When we arrived, we could still see traces of mud on the walls of many homes, showing how high the water had risen.
Mr. Thongdam, village leader of Sanamxay, shared:
He explained that while big animals such as cows and buffalo were evacuated to higher ground, smaller animals like ducks and chickens had to be left behind because they were difficult to move during the rising waters.
Ensuring Support for the Most Vulnerable
The distribution was conducted in close coordination with district authorities and village leaders to ensure that the most vulnerable families such as elderly residents, people with disabilities, and low-income households were prioritised.
This joint effort reflects our commitment to supporting disaster-affected communities in southern Lao PDR, while strengthening local partnerships through organisations like CODA. We will continue to collaborate with local actors to monitor the recovery process and assess any further needs for support.
